Budapest based artist, Bátor Tóth (1989, Budapest, Hungary) after years of playing music, participating in different artistic ventures from photobooks to the performance arts, eventually started his painting practice in Berlin in 2020, where he lived for six years. He was mentored - among others - by NYC artist Jimmie James, Hungarian painter Enikő Márton. Tóth returned to his hometown in 2024, where he now creates primarily with oil paints, while exploring oil pastels, acrylic, and the delicate use of silverpoint pens.
As if entering a mirror that further expands your surroundings would be possible, Tóth’s paintings guides the viewer, painting-by-painting, closer-and-closer to the realization of the Unknown. Each work invites a confrontation with the self - there we are, staring back at ourselves from an alien perspective, realizing infinite sights of new understandings.
Drawing inspiration from philosophical and psychological theories, even from esoteric concepts, Tóth’s practice merges technical precision with abstract landscapes, and more recently, explorations into abstract portraiture. His work challenges conventional viewpoints, blending the everyday with the profound to create a dynamic interplay of perspectives.
